To connect startups, care and knowledge institutions, ahti and Amsterdam UMC (location AMC) signed an agreement for a joint incubator, named the Amsterdam Venture Studios at the Amsterdam Health & Technology Center (AHTC), home base of ahti.

Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA) is the centre of expertise for valorization of Amsterdam UMC (with locations at Meibergdreef (AMC) and De Boelelaan (VUmc)), University of Amsterdam (UvA), Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA), and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU).

It forms the connection between researchers within the universities and the demand for knowledge from the marketplace. As such, IXA-AMC is in the unique position to assist startups within the AHTC incubator looking for access to research facilities and experts on specific subjects in the academic hospital across the street.

Bringing innovations to the market

“Amsterdam UMC is very happy with the collaboration with ahti in the field of incubators,” says Joris Heus, Director of IXA Office Amsterdam UMC (location AMC), “Two programs come together: ahti’s European grant for the development of a HealthTech Park and the IXAnext grant of the City of Amsterdam to knowledge institutions UvA, VU, HvA and Amsterdam UMC a.o. for setting up incubators for new startups from the institutions.

The overall goal is to help startups thrive and bring their innovations to the market faster. The Amsterdam Venture Studios at AHTC is a very welcome addition to IXA-AMC’s valorization activities. It’s great that we’re now able to offer startups workspace and a range of training courses in entrepreneurship (ACE’s Ready2start and Ready2Scale and ahti’s HealthInc program).”

By bringing together entrepreneurship, education and research, Amsterdam UMC and ahti are contributing to a sustainable, urban knowledge economy.
